Summer Beach Dreams

Colorful Shells and even a seed pearl all gathered in a bottle for dreams of the beach. Strung on an adjustable cotton cord.  Knots slide for adjustment.

Seed pearls are small, tiny pearls often used in Victorian jewelry and sewn on clothing.  I was lucky enough to happen upon a stash of them in one of my estate sale finds. 

The ancient Japanese believed that pearls were created out of the tears of mermaids, nymphs, angels and other mythical beings.  And Shells have long been perceived as feminine; a symbol of birth, good fortune, and resurrection.
