Dainty Sapphire Pendant
Sapphire in knot style sterling setting with zircon side stones. 16 inch sterling chain.
Sapphire is the birthstone for September and the gem of the 5th and 45th anniversaries.
In the Middle Ages, clergymen would decorate their robes with sapphires that symbolized heaven. Many people associate sapphires with nobility and honesty. The stone has also represented faithfulness and chastity, which is why it was used as an engagement ring stone prior to the popularity of diamonds. It is also beleived to be a truth stone, wearing it was believed to help people keep their promises, another reason for its use in wedding jewelry.
Early physicians fed their patients powdered sapphires to cure insanity. I wouldn't advise though.
Sapphires can be safely, simply, and effectively cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush or cloth, such as a toothbrush. Ultrasonic cleaners may be used to clean sapphires although if you suspect your sapphire has had some sort of fracture filling or cavity filling process do not use an ultrasonic cleaner.
